Thinking of a new kitchen? Take a look at our top tips for planning your perfect space.
A new kitchen is one of the biggest investments you’ll make in your home, whatever your budget. So getting it right is essential to ensure you enjoy it for years to come. Here, we share our top tips to consider when planning your dream kitchen.
Layout
Layout is everything! Finding the right layout will make all the difference to how you use your kitchen. Consider the key appliances you use on a daily basis – oven, sink, hob, fridge freezer – these need to be easily accessible and work to support you and your usability of the kitchen. A kitchen company will always be able to help advise on the best layouts available and which options will work best and why. You may have your own ideas too which is worth discussing to see how they can be incorporated. Kitchens are the place we spend a lot of our time so getting the layout right really is crucial.
Storage
One of the biggest factors in creating a kitchen that works for you is the storage space available. It’s rare that a client wants less space; usually they are after either the same as they currently have, or in a lot of cases, more storage is needed. But that doesn’t necessarily mean adding in more kitchen units. Items such as pan drawers and space saver options, including the Le Mans corner, means one unit becomes much more useable allowing more items to be stored them. Rather than having to rummage in the back of a cupboard for what you want, these style of units means you to have everything at your fingertips.
Another consideration is the storage that your fridge freezer provides, and the cooking space your oven provides – is it enough? There are so many options for fridge freezers from standard to the larger American style to the full height slimline which gives you a slim, full height fridge or freezer and allows for different layout options in your kitchen, whilst still giving you maximum storage space. And if you cook regularly for larger groups of guests it may be worth thinking about two single ovens instead of one and a half. With options that include a combination of oven, microwave and grill you could find this a game changer in your kitchen whilst eliminating the need for a separate space for a microwave.
Colour & Style
Your new kitchen will last you many years so choosing the colour of your units and worktops carefully will help with longevity. Just like fashion, kitchen trends come and go so our advice is to go for something you love but make sure it’s something you will still love in 15 years time. This is a big ask and can seem a bit daunting but getting it right means you have so much more versatility when changing the décor (wall colour, etc) of your kitchen over the years. This is even more important if your kitchen is part of an open plan space. Often classic styles such as a shaker or handless and colours that are versatile will allow your kitchen to grow with your tastes over the years without investing in a new kitchen again.
